retireronald

The Retire Ronald site is live. Join Corporate Accountability International in sending this clown out to pasture. We’re proud to be a part of this project with our sister company Hairpin Communications. Big shout out to: Burt Glass for his expert wrangling and thoughtful leadership, Andrew Campbell for his development chops and Anna Engle for keeping the train on the tracks. We’d also like to thank Brandon Bolt for his fine illustrations.

levonhelm

We can’t wait to see the documentary about Levon Helm called, Ain’t In It For My Health. The very talented cinematographer and our friend, Emily Topper, is the director of photography. She was at SXSW for the premiere. Emily and the director, Jacob Hatley, spent countless hours with Helm, sleeping in his barn and sitting at his kitchen table as he held forth. They were there for his ambivalent reaction to the Grammy’s Life Time Achievement Award and the news that his cancer might have returned.

Nobody

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Nobody is whoever comes into a room and it is
still empty.

Nobody is who is in a room when everybody goes
away.

Nobody is anybody so hard to see that you can’t
see him.

Nobody is whoever goes away so fast you can’t
see him and comes back the same way.

Nobody went upstairs and who came down?
Nobody.

Nobody is yourself when you feel like a nothing,
like a naught, like a cipher, like a zero, like the letter O.

Nobodies bother nobodies.

Tony has ALS and is paralyzed except for his eyes. Check out his work and the very cool, open source, gorilla approach to technology, art, expression and accessibility at FAT.

Research is one of the best parts of our job. Hours are spent digging through archives and collections. We’re always squirreling and sharing scraps, inspirations, randoms and what-nots. Because we never know when that old diary, box of photos or bag of vintage fabric one of us bought at a yardsale will be the perfect missing element. These ominous beauties are from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the Meteorological Monsters collection.

Such beauty and simplicity! This is what we aspire to as designers. Funny as hell too. We’ve blogged on Christoph Niemann’s work in the past. Now he’s released his I LEGO N.Y. series as a board book.
